Hi friends - hope all good :)
Very happy to announce that coming next Wednesday with our latest edition in the quiet details series is the extremely talented and imaginative multi-instrumentalist, and purveyor of wonderfully experimental sonic universes, Whettman Chelmets.
His previous work is so diverse it’s hard to sum up in any meaningful way (his Bandcamp might do it best - ambient drone shoegazey composed. Confrontational, uplifting, and silly) - inspired by his children’s creativity, A New Place see him exploring fresh spaces - starting off in striking fashion then truly taking us through a vast spectrum of feeling and emotions.
All encompassing and powerful to gentle and touching - a stunning example of a sensitive and deeply thoughtful artist exploring their unique take on music in the most expansive fashion.
Known for his ability to coax out a seemingly never-ending range of sounds and textures from his guitar, he also has a masterful grasp of synthesis and other instruments, as we see here with his trumpet put to good use. Mixed with field recordings and so many beautiful details - soft merges into deep saturation and overdrive - delicate guitar work into walls of sound - guest appearances from his kids Reece and Lucy - this is a stunning and singular addition to the series.
Huge thanks to Whettman, so looking forward to sharing this with you next week - releases Wednesday 29th May, Bandcamp Listening Party Thursday 30th 19:00 UK time x
For now check out some of his music here:
Now some shout-outs:
Hot off the press, Guillermo who runs loop.cl, an excellent and long-running music mag has just published an early review of qd18 - big thanks to him for this and his on-going support - an excerpt:
A layered bath then unfurls with swirling guitar and ambient synth lines that generate a dense atmosphere that then dissipates as the song progresses until reaching a calm and welcoming place.

Huge thanks to one of my favourite print mags and the wonderful team over at Electronic Sound, particularly this time reviews editor Claire Francis for the lovely review of qd16 Seabuckthorn - highly recommend subscribing (can be either online, the print mag, or the physical bundle with limited edition cd or vinyl each month - I get the latter and it’s worth every penny). Gets harder all the time to maintain this level of quality so support them if you can - good people doing amazing work!
Also check out Claire’s other work here - she’s a first rate freelance music/culture journalist and copywriter.

The No Place Like Drone crew playing a qd17 track on their Dublin Digital Radio show.
—
Richard Heinneman previewing qd18 on his E-Lodie show.
—
Bepi Crespan playing tracks on his Music, or Noise? Broadcast - qd16 here and qd17 here.

So much love and appreciation to all these people - the mixes are full of fantastic music so do check them out for a few hours of top drawer curation.
Thanks again friends and see you next week!
